Danny had gotten there an hour early. They tell you to get there an hour early for your flights, right? Not that he had a flight to catch. He just figured getting there was good. It was better to wait there than at his apartment. He could pace in public just as well as he could pace at home.
He had stood there watching passengers arrive through the gates, knowing that there was no way she could be early... not that early anyway. He had gone outside to smoke twice. He had come back inside, gaze darting around as if he would have missed her arrival. And he had paced some more. The closer it got to actual time, the more his heart fluttered that maybe she had decided to stay in Scotland. What could he say? He had always been a hard sell... the consummate skeptic of anyone and everything.
His hands were shoved in the pockets of his baggy jeans. He wore a tight green shirt and a leather coat. His glasses naturally tinted as he stood next to the window and they blocked the sunlight out. And Black boots paced the floor at the far end of the gates by the windows. He was just contemplating another smoke when he saw her.
He stopped his pacing and stared at her, a slow, crooked grin spreading over his lips. She was home.
