Buffy took the subway mostly because walking would take too long. She had stakes tucked in her bag, she'd left a note for Danny (who was working a homicide case)and now she was walking through Central Park. She had her phone on vibrate because nothing ruined a sneak attack like a cell phone ringing. She was supposed to meet Pyro here and they were going to find some vampires to light up. It shouldn't be hard, they loved Central Park like Buffy loved shoes.

"If you tell anyone this I'll beat you," Buffy told him with a smirk, giving him a sidelong glance. "I actually do. I just want to be able to close up shop and just do the normal mom thing. I'm like a demon magnet so until that happens, kids so not an option. I used to joke, Dawn's in trouble. It must be Tuesday. And granted, a lot of that is because she's a key or because she's a brat but some of it, is entirely because she's mine." She paused and shrugged. "What about you? Any little pyro's running around in the future?"

Pyro snorted out a laugh. "Little Pyro's? I don't even have a fuckin' girlfriend. Honestly, I can't see myself settling down with children and all that. Mostly because I just don't think I'll live past thirty, and I really don't want to make anyone a widow or leave my kids without a dad, so yeah." He looked at Buffy. "Guess that's not really an option for me either. World's not exactly a safe place for little kiddies to get born in, but you know, you seem like you'd be a great mom. I mean, Dawn was a first for you, so no matter how much you think you might have screwed up, considering everything you had to deal with back then, I think you did good."

"See and I can totally understand why you'd feel that way. I get that. Somehow, the whole thought of leaving someone you love is easier if there's not a marriage. I don't know why. And leaving kids...yeah that'd be hard," Buffy nodded. She shrugged at his comment about her being a good mom. "Thanks. In theory, I think maybe I'd be okay. As long as I didn't have to be slay me. I would have done better with Dawn I think but I was trying so hard to be Mom. Now I know I can't be her. She was awesome and I'm me and that's okay." She glanced up at John. "You like kids though, right?"

"Yeah. Those that get left behind, they're the ones that tend to suffer for weeks, months, years even. The dead they just... They just go away." Pyro himself hadn't gotten over the death of his parents and he hardly knew them.

He pressed his lips together in a small smile. "Well, I can tolerate them if that's what you mean by liking kids." He had zero experience taking care of children. "I can hardly remember the last time I interacted with a kid." He chuckled. "Maybe back at Xavier's and fuck, that's like eight years ago."

"Most of the rituals we have for the dead are really for the living if you think about it. And that's the way it should be,' Buffy said. She half smiled at Pyro and reached out to grab the hem of his jacket, just hanging onto it as they walked.

"That's more than I've been around them. I've just never really been in a place to be around them. I like them, theoretically."

"Yup." Pyro nodded. "Used to live with young mutant kids aged 3 to whatever back at the Xavier's mansion. They can be quite the handful. I remember getting suckered into babysitting whenever the X-Men were out. Imagine me, age 16, with a bunch of little kiddies. Needless to say, I never bothered to filter the bad language from them and they turned into lil' badasses." He smirked.

"Think we should get the fuck out of here and head for someplace with root beer floats and coney dogs?" They weren't any vampires around and he had a feeling it was because of the way he was manipulating the fire in his hand.

Buffy couldn't help but laugh at the image of a 16 year old Pyro with little kids. "How many things did you light on fire to try and entertain them?" she asked with a glance around the park. "Yeah sounds good to me."

"Every fucking thing in sight?" He snickered. "Well, okay, not everything but Scott ended up giving me a whole load of crap to burn out in the yard. Old furniture and shit. That was kinda fun, I guess." He shrugged.

"So, I'll get to checking in with security back at the Brotherhood's base and we'll see about getting you in to teach the new recruits." He smirked and slipped his lighter into his jacket pocket. "And now we go eat cause I'm fucking starving."

"Like popcorn and a show," Buffy smiled at him. "Yeah I'm definitely on the food train," she said as she tucked the stake back in the waistband of her pants at the small of her back. "New recruit training will be fun though. And I can actually teach them real stuff without lecturing about how if I ever find out they used my stuff on someone and it wasn't a major case of self defense, I'll beat them bloody."

He chuckled. "You might end up having to lecture the newbies about discipline and respect and shit though. They can be a tough, rowdy, rebellious bunch. Bet the boys will love you though. I'm a real grouch and Sabretooth is just... real fucking ugly." He snickered. "So after we eat, I can drop you back to your place. It won't be a problem." He was going to head off to Boston instead of back to his apartment in Brooklyn anyways. He figured if he couldn't sleep, he might as well do some work at the main base.
