12th Slay [Video] You wouldn't say that I'm the picture of urbanity

[The video comes up on a picture of this building. It gets jerky as it 'walks' toward the building. There's a stop, some shifting and the clank of keys. A hand unlocked the door and the person holding the video camera steps inside the building, the door swinging shut with a thud behind her. The room is empty for the most part. There's a kitchen that looks like it's seen a lot better days to one side and a bathroom in the far corner. The floors are all dark wood and the many windows cast patches of sunlight. Stairs can be seen as the camera operator turns in a slow circle]

So home sweet home. First order of business, cleaning and drapes then furniture. It should be good though. Lots of space and I'm gonna turn this area [A gesture to the open area in the middle of the floor] into a training space.

[Private to Spike, Faith and Xander]

Spike, basement is all yours the windows are bricked in already. Xander and Faith, there's plenty of room for both of you.

...Xander, I'm thinking we could use lots of help here from you. I'm willing to play pack mule and I think I can get Eliot to help with the moving. Once we've got drapes up or it's dark, Spike I will be pack muling you out too.

[ Xander is mid his lunch break but eyes are glued to the screen. He's looking and listening. And thinking. He does not roll his eyes when Spike is mentioned. Wiping his mouth, he swallows the bite of sandwich he took. ]

[She expects this and is accustomed to it by now. She expects a great deal of it if they're going to live together]

Yes. And your carpentry skills.

So, what exactly am I carpentrying? Carpentering? Carpent...ing?

The kitchen cabinets are...really bad. Drape hanging...does that count as carpentry? There are screwdrivers and maybe hammers so that says carpentry to me.

I've got furniture coming later this afternoon. Nothing great. A couch, TV, beds. That'll be the manly strength of manliness part.

Drape hanging is not carpentry but you know me and windows.

Oh, I can deal with couches and beds. And manly things. Wait, so, this is for you, me, Faith, and -- ~~Spike?~~

I knew I could count on you.

[Pause and sigh]

I'm going to try and get Faith in with us because I think it'd be good. Stick together and all that jazz. Spike's going to live in the basement.

Safe as houses. Everything is pretty sound; stairs, walls, windows. It's all surface dressing. The kitchen is a wreck but Xander can redo the cabinets and that'll help. I'm pretty sure the oven is a loss but since I don't know how to use it, that's okay too. By tonight it'll look more livable? [That sounds like hoping rather than certainty]

[This is Buffy rolling her eyes. She's never heard that one before. Ever. So original but she's not into threats and she doesn't feel the need to go around and prove how good she is at what she does so...ditzy blonde, activate]

Gosh! How'd you ever guess? Like I'm totally having issues with the whole running in heels thing.

Cute, Barbie. Didn't think your type did the running thing. Could break a nail or get a split end.

That's what press ons and deep conditioner is for. What can I say? It's a life's goal.

[There were a lot of words, Buffy. This is the one he heard.] Eliot?

[Of course. She should have seen that one coming] A friend of mine. Who will probably be helping me move in and will definitely be visiting. [The words Be nice, Spike are implied in her tone]

[What was that? Be rice? That's just silly. How can he be rice?] What kind of visiting? [Oh, yeah, he's already there.]

[This would be Buffy literally face palming and doing a lot of nose pinching] He and I have gone on a couple of dates.

[Reserved is a fucking understatement here.]

Okay I thought maybe with the no job thing you'd want a free place to squat. Either way, there's a room here for you if you want it.
