Ain't no sunshine when she's gone [It ain't warm when she's away]

[Rp for [livejournal.com profile] stillacrime This is involved in the Sam's Army storyline. The phone call happens ICly Wednesday night.]

Buffy kicked Angel out of the room, sent him patrolling then she changed into her pajamas, pulled her hair up into a ponytail and sat against the headboard of the bed. She pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees. She had already talked to Danny like six times that day but she hadn't really been able to talk to him for long. He'd been at work and she'd been either in layovers, running to a plane or trying to arrange her motel room. Now she had Angel out of the room and she could talk. Not that she wouldn't have talked with Angel in the room. She just would have thrown things at him every time he made an expression. He knew better than to talk. Things had been awkward with Angel at first but they'd kind of ironed things out and Angel had asked if she was happy and when she'd said yes, he'd accepted it. There was still that tension between her and Angel but that tension was always always going to be there. It was too much a part of Buffy and Angel to go away.

Buffy hated this whole being away from Danny thing. Once she got through this whole battle thing, she swore even if the world did decide to end, she was not leaving New York City for a nice long while. It could decide to end in NYC or one of the other slayers could take care of it. Of course this was a little bigger than one slayer. In fact she was a little bit worried about this battle. Not only was she going to end up killing possessed humans, but they could do nasty, nasty things to her. Angel had instructions to actually go to New York and talk to Danny if anything happened to her. Of course he had to tell everyone else, but everyone else would understand. They knew the deal. Danny would be taken completely by surprise and she hated that. So she was kinda hoping not to die or end up in a week long coma this time. It would be nice.

After staring at Danny's number for five minutes, Buffy finally pushed call. She listened to it ring and when he finally picked up, a real smile curved her lips.

"Hey, Boyfriend."

"Alright. Missin' you." Danny answered, picking up his beer and cigarettes and walking out to the balcony. "Apartment's kinda lonely."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, Baby. I miss you so much," Buffy said, her voice getting softer. "I should have gotten a smoking room so I could go buy cigarettes and burn them. How'd your day go?"

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good. Caught that taxi cab killer that's been runnin' around the city. Actually, Mac and Don caught him. I just did the lab work." He sounded a little annoyed at being stuck in the lab, but not overtly so. "Anyway, bad guy is behind bars. So that's good."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yay! That's awesome. We'll celebrate when I get home?" Buffy suggested. "Also you're pretty sexy doing the lab work. The whole genius thing is a turn on."

She knew he was irritated at being kept in the lab so she was trying to make it less of an irritation.

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds good." Danny grinned a grin that was audible in his voice as he slid down to sit on the concrete floor of the balcony. "Not so much a genius but I ain't stupid. Don't matter though cause I know you're in like with me anyway."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It was really nice to hear the smile in Danny's voice. She turned so she could stretch out on the bed on her stomach. The smile reciprocated on her lips. "Completely in like with you but I still think you're a genius."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's just cause I thought up the body shots the other night, yeah?" He smirked lightly and then lit up a cigarette.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Duh," Buffy laughed. She rolled to her back and put her bare feet up against the headboard. "So Friday, I get in at 12:47pm. I've got a long layover I'm dreading. What does work look like? Should I cab it home? I know you're probably at work and it's fine. I just wanted to get home as soon as possible."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Probably workin' late on a Friday night. You know how it is." Danny answered. "But I want you home too... like since about five seconds after you left."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me too," Buffy answered. "S'okay. I'll cab it home, get some pizza, sleep and when you get home, I'll be there."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He grinned. "I like you there when I get home. Just so you know."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm that works out pretty well then," Buffy smiled. She tugged on the end of her ponytail as she talked to him. "And I've decided, when I get home, I'm not leaving for a very long time. No more plane trips for me."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I'm kinda attached to you. This whole distance thing is..." He trailed off, taking a drag of his cigarette.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Bad. Very, very bad. Like of the uber badness," Buffy finished. "I'll call you when I get home and then IM annoy you to death if you're in the lab."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"So what's the hotel like? Everyone treatin' you okay there?" He asked, opting to change the subject to try not to slip too far into emo-land.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's alright. It's a hotel. Cable, ice machine, white towels. You know...a hotel," Buffy said with a glance around the room. "Everyone is nice. Just not as nice to me as you are and I wouldn't want them to be. I like it being a you thing."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"You layin' in bed?" He asked, the corners of his lips lifting in a small frin.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yup," Buffy confirmed. "On my back. Feet on the headboard. Housekeeping probably hates that. I'd hate cleaning footprints off walls. Now I'm gonna feel bad, go buy some pledge and dust the headboard before I leave Friday morning so now I don't feel bad about keeping my feet on the headboard."

Her answer was probably not supposed to be a Buffy ramble but hey, gotta keep it interesting, or something.

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Feet prints are better than fingerprints. Just don't have 'em in the system." Danny stated randomly. "More distinctive."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"So you have to find the person before you can bring them in to footprint them," Buffy asked. "Is everyone's feet print different, like with fingerprints?"

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, they're all unique. But there's no database for it. And most killers don't go barefoot, you know?" Danny explained.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. No, I understand why there's not a database," Buffy said as she twirled her ponytail around her finger. She was still laying on her back with her feet pressed against the headboard. "I was just curious 'cause I know next to nothing about what you actually do in your job. Except for movies and TV and I kinda figure they're not right."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Gather evidence from crime scenes, or take evidence gathered and sift through it in a lab. Do a lotta chemistry. Sometimes I go out in the field and play detective. Ask questions. A lotta times my job is pretty yuck. But I like it." He explained. "Figure out who committed what crime and help put 'em away."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"So like the tv shows and movies minus the dramatic music," Buffy quipped. "We should get you dramatic music. All heroes need dramatic music."
