Buffy had spent a good deal of the night awake. Even after a good, long patrol she couldn't sleep so she'd gone out to the balcony with a piece of pink paper and the purple glitter gel pens she adored and she'd written Danny a letter. She tucked into his coat pocket and crawled back in bed around 5AM. She curled up next to him and finally fell asleep for a couple of hours before the alarm had blared at her. The letter Danny would find in his coat pocket was as follows:

Hey Boyfriend,

So I know I got kind of weird the other day. I wanted to apologize and tell you I really, really, really did appreciate the Happy We're Together Day and dinner and the crosses. It was just me and the whole not sleeping and being Buffy. I know I say a lot all the time but I know I don't always say the right things. I really appreciate all the things you do for me though. No one has ever been so good to me so sometimes I get a little insecure because this is important to me and important equals automatic wigging. So when I wig, just hang with me. I'll stop wigging eventually.

Danny found the note sticking out from beneath his pillow. He couldn't help but grin, and after a thorough search, found white paper but still had the purple glitter pen. He left the note next to her curling iron on the bathroom counter.

Summertime-

You're such a tease with the white paper and black pen. Alright so you're just a tease and what can I say? I like it.

I bet the Cracker Jacks people listen to a pretty blonde more than they did to scruffy me. And come on... world peace? Don't be Miss Universe. They're too cliche and putting on a show. You? You're... boom.

And don't you go changing your imagination either. I like it.

Buffy found her letter the next morning and it made her grin. She saved the letter until she got to work to read it. Consequently the boys kept asking why she was smiling so much. She got a sheet of yellow legal paper and used a blue pen just for variety’s sake. When she was finished with the letter she rushed it home and slipped it in with the beer in the fridge.

Hey Messer (I see I’m making you come up with nicknames for me)

Aww but I usually make good on my teasing. I just torment you with it first. That’s the fun in it. I see you found the white paper though. I kind of like you stuck with my purple glitter pens to be honest.

Actually, you’d be surprised. People dismiss a blonde a lot. You know, all the dumb blonde jokes. I’ll be sure to include a picture of me in a bikini though and address it to a guy. I was mostly just joking, which is the problem with letters. Tone doesn’t come across. I still like the whole letter thing. It makes me smile to find these from you. You’re right though, world peace is boring and so not for a girl like me. I’d go more for standardized shoe pricing. Making designer footwear available to everyone without mortgaging their souls.

I know. That’s why I just keep using it.

Finding a note with the beer in the fridge? Was made of win. He read it, and after he had written a reply, he folded it up and saved it until morning. Before he left for work the next morning he left it folded over the top drawer in the bureau (which happened to be her underwear drawer), halfway sticking out so she could see it.

Whoever's gonna underestimate you is in for a big surprise. I've seen you with the punching bag.

So maybe we should keep writing them to each other here and there. I like making you smile. I like it a lot. I'll even keep using the purple glitter pen just for you.

Buffy found her letter when she woke up and took it to work with her along with some of the lilac paper and a pink glitter pen. When she'd finished a reply she put it in a sealed envelope with his name printed almost professionally in black letters. She was slightly nervous but she figured it couldn't actually hurt anything. She got off work early, took it up to his work and left it with the front desk.

I love the nicknames by the way and I think you're a genius for the whole continuing to write the notes thing. You + purple glitter pen are made of win.
