I Love New York! [Rp for [livejournal.com profile] stillacrime for <lj site="livejournal.co

Buffy was in New York. She'd been there for a couple of days. There was a thing with some vampires and a cult and it was a whole blood thing that had resulted in some dead girls. Maybe a dead boy. Buffy was unclear on the details. However, she was clear on the whole vampires go poof thing. She'd cleared out the nest/cult/temple whatever they wanted to call it and sent the rest of the cultists home...cultist...was that even a word? Maybe they were minons or worshippers...huh. Anyway, she was now having a drink in a bar. One of those fruity, pretty, umbrella-y drinks. The kind that hit with a punch and kept on hitting. She was celebrating the whole ash thing along with the whole hey no baby slayers running around. She thought they were celebration worthy things. She'd called in and let them know she was taking a vacation. A shopping vacation or maybe just a drinking and sleeping vacation. She wasn't quite clear yet. Thus far, it had sorta been both. She'd gone shopping earlier and snagged a totally cute, totally bar worthy little pink silky tank along with a pair dark 'skinny' jeans and some heels that would break the first time she tried to slay a vampire in them. She had her hair all bouncy and wavy around her shoulders.

Right now she sat at the bar, her back to the bartender, elbows on the bar as she watched the dance floor with a slight smile. Tomorrow she had an appointment at the spa. So far, her working vacation in New York City was turning out to be a lot of fun.

The bartender gave Buffy another drink and indicated to her the guy on the other end of the bar. He lifted his beer to her and she smiled wider, the tip of her tongue coming between her teeth. She ducked her head and took a sip of her drink before looking up to him. After a moment's hesitation she picked up her drink and wandered over to where he sat.

"I'll warn you, if you're trying to get me drunk, it takes quite a bit," she teased him.

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Sipping at his own beer, his gaze followed her as she moved around the bar to where he was. "Can promise you it never crossed my mind." He answered around a grin.

An eyebrow arched as he pointed to where she had been sitting to where she stood now. "However, gettin' you from there to here or me from here to there... that might've been a plan. Name's Danny Messer." He held a hand out to her as he spoke with his trademark thick and unbridled New York accent. There was still the familiarity that remained unexplained so far, but he hoped her name might make a connection somehow.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed at his comment about the plan and took his hand. It was warm and a lot bigger than hers. Her brow furrowed and she tilted her head slightly. He seemed familiar somehow but she had no idea why. After a moment she realized she'd probably been holding onto his hand for a bit too long. She let go of it, turning slightly pink.

"Buffy Summers." His thick New York accent made her more aware of her California girl one. "Personally, I think I'm gonna call you Rocky." She glanced at the bar stool next to him. "Do you mind if I sit?"

Maybe if she talked to him a little bit she'd figure out how she knew him. She wasn't sure how she'd forgotten that accent but then most of her junior, senior and freshman in college years were a blur so really, it was all up for grabs.

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Buffy Summers. Not at all a memory stirrer for him. And who would forget an original name like Buffy? "I would not complain of you sat next to me."

He waited for her to sit down, taking in details like the line of her neck, the sweep of her hair, a spark in her eye. "Rocky?" He asked, not quite getting the connection yet. "As in Sylvester Stalone, Rocky?"

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you know, 'Yo Adrienne,'" Buffy said doing a very bad New York accent. The teasing was good natured and it was obvious she wasn't being mean. She took a sip of her drink. "But if it bothers you, you can totally rag on me about the ditzy blonde California girl thing. Or you know I might pick another name but I'll warn you, it could be worse."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nah, I'll take Rocky." Danny sipped at his beer again, still studying Buffy. When he gestured to her it was with the neck of his beer bottle. "Gonna take it with that accent you're from the West coast. Workin' here in the City or vacationing?"

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She hesitated just a moment because if she said working she'd have to explain what she did and that was a difficult explanation. Buffy covered the hesitation with a sip of her drink then gave him a bright smile.

"California. I grew up in LA most of my life. I'm here on vacation."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Vacation all by yourself?" Danny glanced around the bar, specifically back to where she had been sitting and then back to her. "Never been to LA."

He paused, his face twisting as he studied her again. "You know, I coulda sworn I've seen you somewhere before. Just can't place it and I'm almost positive I'd remember a pretty face like yours."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"What can I say? I'm an independent girl," Buffy quipped with a shrug. "It's not just a Kelly Clarkson song anymore."

At his compliment she flushed pink and grinned. She looked up at him, smile still fixed on her face. "Thank you and I sorta thought the same thing when I got a good look at you. You know the whole I've seen you somewhere before. Uhm...were you in Rome in 2004? Or London anytime in 2005? Maybe Scotland the last few years? Have you even been to Sunnydale, California? I was in New York years ago. I was like thirteen though so...I like to think I've changed since then."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah. Lived a pretty small life. Born and raised on Staten Island. Now I'm on the upper East Side... always a New Yorker." Danny explained, sipping at his beer again. "And hey, somethin' to be said for independence. Too many people try and fit in a mold these days. Don't try for nothin' that might be out of their league according to some."

He pointed at her. "Just very weird. Who knows? Maybe we met in a past life or somethin'. What do you do for a livin', Buffy?"

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh I'm very mold break-y girl," Buffy assured him. She took a long sip of her drink. Her eyes widened slightly at the past life comment because she sort of believed in that kind of thing. In fact she kind of remembered past lives occasionally you know with the slayer line and everything. After a moment she shrugged and nodded. "Maybe. Weirder things have happened."

She took a giant swallow of her drink at his question about what she did and her mind raced. "Self defense. I mean...I teach self defense. Usually to girls. Sometimes to guys."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Self defense, huh?" He gave her a boyish grin, leaning in just slightly. "Just for the sake of makin' a corny comment, you can kick my ass anytime. But nah really, that's a cool job i bet. What age group are you teachin'?"

He nodded at her drink. "And what're you drinkin' there?"

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Buffy laughed and shook her head. "I don't wanna hurt you," she told him with a wink. "Sometimes it makes me crazy but overall I know it's something that's needed. I teach teenagers. That's kind of the age where they really need it."

She looked down at her drink and swirled her straw in it."This is actually a strawberry daquiri but they have an Espresso Martini I'm thinking of trying because caffeine and alcohol together seem like the best idea ever."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
A crooked grin spread over Danny's lips at that assessment. "Hey. I like alcohol. I like caffeine. No way that can't be a good combination. Wonder if it really tastes like espresso though. And please say they don't put an olive in it. Cause espresso and olive? That's just wrong." His nose wrinkled at the idea.

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Let's find out," Buffy grinned at Danny. She leaned over the bar, waving down the bartender. "Two Espresso martini's please." The bartender nodded and Buffy sat back down with a smile. Within moments there were two frothy mocha colored drinks in front of them sprinkled with coffee beans. No olive in sight. A bigger smile spread over her lips as she slid his drink over to him.

"To seeing each other in past lives."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Pure amusement laced Danny's features as he watched Buffy lean over the bar and order the drinks. Without her seeing him, he lifted his finger and pointed to himself and the Bartender nodded that he would put it on Danny's tab.

"Alright alright." Danny lifted his martini glass somewhat shakily and the drink sloshing over the edges before he steadied it. "To knowin' you in a past life... and to mixin' alcohol cause, damn." He took a sip, surprised when the drink did indeed taste like voffee with a kick. "S'got kick."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Buffy's eyes widened with delight at her first sip of the drink. "Oh...I think I'm in love. It's a very strong possibility. I could be like the drunk energizer bunny on these. Which would be totally awesome," she rambled a little.

"I think beer before alcohol is okay," Buffy pointed out. "And I am usually the most responsible person on the planet so if I end up hungover tomorrow I'm owed a few." She took another drink then her expression went slightly horrified as she realized what she'd said. "Not that I intend to get all drunk on you or anything. God, that'd be rude."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Not unless you're a rude drunk." He conceded, unable to quit grinning at her constant chatter. "But we'll shot for no hangover cause those are never a good time."

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
The grin just encouraged her which might or might not be a good thing depending on who you were asking. "Nope, not a rude drunk. A chatty drunk. I talk a lot when I'm drunk," she admitted, oblivious of the fact that by most people's standards she talked a lot when she was sober. "Occasionally I'll trash talk random people. The good thing is since I'm little and blonde, people usually laugh it off 'cause who wants to beat up a little blonde girl. And I lose a huge chunk of my grace when I'm drunk. Usually round house kick and me are like that," she held her hand up fingers crossed. "Get me drunk and roundhouse kick is no longer my friend. Occasionally walking is not my friend."

[identity profile] stillacrime.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I'll get you to the subway and on your way safely if you need it by the end of the night." Danny assured her. "Tell me about yourself, Buffy. You got family. You live in California. Your last name is Summers. What have you done in New York so far?"

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Buffy giggled, almost snorting martini through her nose. The very idea that even drunk she needed protecting amused her but it was also nice. No guy had really tried to take care of her since Angel. "Thank you and I thought there were no gentlemen in New York City," she said. She tucked a strand of hair behind one ear and thought about his questions for a moment. "Well I grew up in California. I'm working in Scotland right now at a girl's school. My mom died when I was twenty and dad has been absent since I was seventeen but I've got a sister named Dawn. She's twenty. I've got a Giles, which is like a father figure but stuffy and English and not related to me."

She took a sip of her drink and went over what she'd done. "Shopping, Empire State Building, Dracula on Broadway which was a hoot and a half and so far...that's about it. I have plans to do more. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I've only been here for a few days."

She tilted her head at him realizing that she'd been doing all the talking. "Oh. My. God. I am so rude. I've just been rambling like an idiot. I don't know anything about you other than your name is Danny Messer and you sound like Rocky. Which is kinda a nice thing. My Mom used to say he can call me 'Yo Adrienne' anytime. Which I agreed with. Even if he's old now. Which this is not about me. What do you do, Danny?"
