39th Slay [Voice || Action]

Filtered from Dawn

So the 14th was my little sister's birthday. We were kind of...zombified that day and then we were Depped and then...you get the point. So, I'm throwing her a birthday party today at my place. If you've talked to Dawn, met Dawn or even if you just want to come to a party, you're welcome.

Here's the deal, it's a funny hat party. So wear a funny hat and bring an ingredient to put in or on ice cream sundaes.

Directions are here. Show up around 6:00.

[Action--fast forwarded to Dawn's birthday party. Threadjack, mill around, have fun]

[Buffy's been busy while Dawn was at work. She hung streamers, banners and gathered balloons. There's glitter confetti scattered all over the floor that's going to take years to get up. Most of the training equipment has been shoved off in a corner to make room for a mini dance floor. The bar at the kitchen is covered in various components for ice cream sundaes. The music is up loud enough to be heard but not so loud it has to be screamed over. Buffy is running around in a sundress, wearing one of those cheesy gag, knife through the head hats.]

[There is hugging back.] Of course I remembered. There was just crazy and trust me when I saw zombies do not make good party goers. They eat all the cake and then they eat all the guests. There is chocolate cake, no brownies but I can get some if you want. There are also tons of ice cream sundae fixings.

And presents but you can wait to open if you want.

Zombies eat cake? I thought they were just 'mmmm brains'. Although I guess if there was a cake that was shaped like a brain they might cause as far as intelligence goes they're really not all that -- SO not the point.

[See? She can make herself shut up. Sometimes. Her arms wrap around her stomach and she rocks back and forth on her feet from toes to heels.] Chocolate cake is perfection. Chocolate anything is perfection. Did you say presents?

They like appetizers.

[Buffy picks up a present from where she's stashed it behind a chair and holds it out. Inside she'll find a silver, folding crossbow. It collapses down to a reasonable size to put in her purse. It's engraved with a DS on the side. There's also a supply of bolts engraved with some runes that will make them more effective against everything.]

[Dawn happily takes the present, ripping into the bow and paper until she gets to the box. Her eyes go wide and there's actually a gasp as she lifts the lid off and spies what's inside. With a high-pitched squeal, she lifts the crossbow out, studying it for a moment before biting down on her tongue as she toys with it, trying to figure out how it unfolds and folds back up. All the while, of course she's talking.]

Ohmigod, Buffy. This is so awesome. I mean, obviously it's an us present and you know I'm pretty good with one of these except this one gets all bendy so I have to figure it out and... oh! There.

[Finally, with the crossbow unfolded Dawn aims it first at the wall and then at Buffy. What? It's not loaded yet!]

Dawn, what's the first rule of crossbows? After don't hide them under the bed? Don't point them at people you don't want to shoot or Miss Kitty Fantasticos.

[She's teasing and smiling though. She's glad Dawn likes the gift.]

I thought it could come in handy here.

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-20 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! It isn't even loaded yet! Duh. Like I'm some newb who doesn't know what she's doing with -- Ooh! Bolts!

[She grabs one and loads up the crossbow within a few seconds. And yes, this time Buffy is safe because Dawn only points it at the wall. She's grinning and one eye is squinting shut just to practice sighting with it. Of course, as is Dawn's way, her finger twitches on the trigger and the arrow lands in the wall. Dawn gasps, the crossbow down at her side and her other hand over her mouth.]

Ooops?

[Buffy winces and goes over to pull the bolt out of the wall. She walks back over and hands it to Dawn.]

Maybe we do crossbow practice outside.

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[There's wincing action going on over here too, as well as a rose flush coloring Dawn's face. She looks back over her shoulder to see if anyone besides Buffy saw that, and when she's satisfied that they didn't she plays the cool card, shrugging it off and pretending like she meant to do that -- which she totally did.] Yeah, sure. Outside is good.

[Taking the bolt from Buffy, she sets the crossbow back into the box and studies it instead.] What's up with the symbols? And please tell me you know cause I so don't wanna have to do research at my own birthday party. In fact, I should be shot with my own brand new crossbow for saying the words birthday and research in the same sentence at my own party.

I don't know exactly what they say but I know what they do. They make the bolts more effective whether you're shooting a monster, a vampire or a wall.

[She gestures to the wall with this because there is clearly a nice hole in the brick.]

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhhh! Cool. More effective how?

[It might feel like an interrogation, Buffy. But it's a valid question!]

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
They fly faster, harder more straight. Good things for bolts to do.

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey that's a cool spell like a cheat only for archery instead of a computer game. There should be a real life more money cheat like on SIMS.

[She snickers at the idea as she turns the bolt this way and that, inspecting it.]

Or a never really dead cheat like on Gears of War. [Of course it occurs to her that Buffy might not get any of this. What happened to all of the geeky people she knows and why aren't they here when she's flying the nerd-o-rama pride flag?]

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-22 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait? What? There's cheating? [Not geeky enough, Dawn. Sorry.]

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-22 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well in video games they have these cheat codes where you can -- you know, cheat -- beat the system, rebel against the rules and all that.

[Insert a pause here and Dawn sets the bolt down specifically for the purpose of putting her hands on her hips in classic Dawn pose and rolling her eyes.]

How long have you been hanging out with me and Xander now? And Andrew! There was even geek bondage with Andrew to go get that one Slayer-ette! Do you not pay attention ever? [Another pause as her eyes grow wide.] Ohmigod I sound like the hip-geek version of Giles.

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I've been a little preoccupied the last couple of years with apocalypses, slayerettes and vampires. [There is mutual hands on the hips and eye rolling.]

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh there you go pulling the I'm the Slayer card to make excuses about not paying attention to the people closest to you. You always do this! You get so into your thing that everyone else gets f-...

[Her nose wrinkles and her lips twist into a sardonic smile.] Wait, what were we talking about again?

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Buffy crosses her arms over her chest and smirks] Video games and cheats and something about Andrew bonding. Possibly with the video game.

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Cheats! That's right. Cheats. [She sighs.] I talk too much. But this is me, quitting. I quit with the talking. Just watch me... quitting.

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmm uh. Quitting. Gonna watch. [Clearly she doesn't believe this will happen.]

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I can quit. I can say as few words as you. Watch:

[And she just stands there, her arms crossed over her chest. Until...]

...kinda boring, huh? And by kinda I mean a lot. Chocolate cake?

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Buffy knew it wouldn't last long. She smirks and nods]

Chocolate cake. Candles? No wishing though. [Because wishing is bad, m'kay]

[ action ]

[identity profile] the-dawnster.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries there, I never wish for anything anymore -- unless it's silently in my head. And yes candles, please.

[They make their way to the kitchen where the cake sits on the island. She moves over to it and dips one index finger into the icing only to lick it off.] Mmmm. Unless -- are there demons who can hear wishes in your head that you don't say out loud?

Re: [ action ]

[identity profile] whattingawhat.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe no mouth demons but I don't see any of them here. [Buffy rummages in the drawer and comes up with some pink birthday candles. She starts sticking them in the cake. Yes there will be nineteen.]
