So the 14th was my little sister's birthday. We were kind of...zombified that day and then we were Depped and then...you get the point. So, I'm throwing her a birthday party today at my place. If you've talked to Dawn, met Dawn or even if you just want to come to a party, you're welcome.

Here's the deal, it's a funny hat party. So wear a funny hat and bring an ingredient to put in or on ice cream sundaes.

[Buffy's been busy while Dawn was at work. She hung streamers, banners and gathered balloons. There's glitter confetti scattered all over the floor that's going to take years to get up. Most of the training equipment has been shoved off in a corner to make room for a mini dance floor. The bar at the kitchen is covered in various components for ice cream sundaes. The music is up loud enough to be heard but not so loud it has to be screamed over. Buffy is running around in a sundress, wearing one of those cheesy gag, knife through the head hats.]

[It had been another long day at work. City Solutions seemed to be growing by leaps and bounds. Sometimes Dawn still found herself wondering how she had landed the gig of running such a huge business. She sighed as she unlocked the front door to the Warehouse she shared with Buffy and Aya. Truth be told, she'd been in a funk for days now, over a week at least. But when she opened that door, she froze and looked around the space.

Hesitantly, she steps inside.] Is there a cheesy decoration curse or something? Cause that would be a step up from the curses lately -- more than a step, multiple steps even. I mean who doesn't like cheese?

Nope. No decoration curse. [Have a beaming Buffy] There were zombies on your birthday and then there were pirates and rings and robots and people from home and now there's no curse. So Happy Birthday Dawnie time.

[A very brief pause for air] I should have gotten cheese. Maybe someone will bring some.

[As Buffy speaks, a smile slowly spreads over Dawn's lips and her eyes slowly brighten up leaving some of that weariness and blah-ness behind. She sets the leather bag she caries to and from work with her everyday down just inside the door and then simultaneously bounces up and down and wraps her arms around her older sister in a bouncy, excited hug.]

A birthday party for me? Really? You actually remembered with all the crazy going on? I thought maybe you'd forgotten but yay! Is there cake? Chocolate cake? Or! Oh! Brownies?

[There is hugging back.] Of course I remembered. There was just crazy and trust me when I saw zombies do not make good party goers. They eat all the cake and then they eat all the guests. There is chocolate cake, no brownies but I can get some if you want. There are also tons of ice cream sundae fixings.

And presents but you can wait to open if you want.

[ He's not wearing a funny hat, but he's brought a birthday present for Dawn; it's a big box of chocolates. He's got no fucking clue what she likes or doesn't like and he sure as hell hopes she's not allergic to chocolate. Or peanuts. Or raisins. Or rum. And whatever else is in the box.

Pyro steps inside and stares at the streamers and the balloons and the banners. Funny hats. Crazy decorations. Buffy's sure been busy. ]

[Like it or not, John is easily recognizable from the video she's seen of him. This is both a good and a bad thing. Cause Dawn immediately goes over to him and unceremoniously wraps her arms around his shoulders in a quick hug before stepping back and bouncing excitedly on her feet for a few moments. And about that bad part.]

Yay! Now Buffy has a kissing friend here. She'll be really happy to see you. And so am I cause -- it's my birthday. Okay, so not really -- anymore but Buffy is just so awesome that late birthdays are just as good as on the right day birthdays.

[ And -- he's going to ignore that bit about being Buffy's kissing friend. ] Wow. You really are her sister, huh? What with the whole... wordy thing. [ He looks amused. ] Got you something. [ John hands her the box of chocolates. ] It's not much. I'm uh shit at presents, but happy belated birthday.

How old are you now anyways? Sixteen? [ Yeah. He has no clue at all. ]

Oh but I love chocolates so you're right on the money, only without the money part. You're right on the sugar coma-y goodness cause it's possible I could eat this whole box in one sitting. So thanks!

[And for a moment she's all smiles until that next question is posed. Have a littlest Summers glare, John.] I'm nineteen. [And then that glare turns to worry.] I really look sixteen?

[Well she feels a little guilty that the City decided to be crazy on Dawn's birthday. Buffy is the one with the insane, bad, no good birthdays, not Dawn so she might have gone a little overboard. She's doing the hostess thing but John's got enough predatory thing going that it makes the slayer in her perk up which she happens to love--shut up when he walks in the door. She catches his eye, smiles and excuses herself to go over and say hi.]

You came. Not that I thought you wouldn't because invite and previous knowing of me and talking to Dawn. Also, hi. [And then she hesitates because she's not entirely sure what the proper greeting is so she flails between hugging him and just waving lamely. It's awkward and there she goes again looking and feeling a little like a socially inept sixteen year old girl. It's a compliment. Really.

[ When she moves in to hug him, instead of giving her a kiss on the cheek, he awkwardly gives her a pat on the back. Smooth. ]

Figured it'd be a good time to drop by. Been a while since I last saw you anyways.

[ John tugs on her funny hat. ] Nice. [ And he gives her a look. ] No. You're not making me wear one.

[They can be ridiculously smooth together. At least his lack of smooth makes her feel less awkward. It makes her relax a little so that she can go straight to teasing.]

Come on. I think I have a flame covered top hat that's just screaming your name. [She smiles, reaching up to touch the arrow going through her ears hat thing then kind of does this bounce--just once--on her toes thing]

I'm glad you came. It's been very while-y. I was beginning to think your monthly Buffy tolerance was very, very low.

[There is no way that Aya would miss this party so he's here. He already gave Dawn her present on her birthday but that doesn't mean he doesn't have something else for her. He smiles when he sees her but stays in the background until she's done talking with her sister.]

[After the usual whirlwind back and forth between Buffy and Dawn, she weaves her way over to Aya. Missing his presence is a Dawn impossibility, even in a room full of people. Smiling at him, she laces their fingers together with one hand and wraps the other up around the back of his neck to hold him in a close embrace.]

You're here. Not that I expected you not to be here but you know you have a vibe about you that makes a whole room kind of lighten up from my perspective. Or if you didn't know that, now you do.

[Dawn gets Aya's embrace and a kiss pressed to her forehead. For him it's a rather big thing considering all the people that are around.]

[Aware of how rare PDA was for Aya, she gets even a little more giddy when it happens. Her smile grows and she even has the decency to blush a little bit. She pulls back, keeping that one hand in hers as she does.]

You learn something new everyday -- so cliche but it's actually kind of true unless you're in a coma -- or possibly on a deserted island.

[Ken arrived a little late thanks to finishing up a patrol, but thankfully, he was a good boy and changed before he headed over to to the party. A small bouquet of white jasmine in his hand, he slipped into the room and glanced around.]

[So surprised to see Ken at the party with his being as busy as she knew he was, Dawn bounds over to him the minute she sees him. She gives him a hug whether he likes it or not. What? She's excited.]

Ken! I'm so glad you came. Aya's here too and he's gonna be so glad to see you too. You two can have BFF time -- only manlier and with chocolate cake.

[He returns the hug without hesitation. Hey, he likes hugs! As soon as he pulls away, he hands over the little bouquet before he absently scratches at a spot on his arm.]

I see Aya all the time. I'm sure he's sick of me by now, buuuut, I can't turn down cake. I'm still a growing boy!

[Doing her hostess thing, Buffy sees Ken come in and heads over to say hi.]

[Neil shows up somewhat late, wearing a reproduction of the minish cap (http://the-sacred-grove.com/images/minishcapOA2.JPG) and clutching awkwardly at a small gift bag. All told, he's not really in his element at parties-- not to mention, Summers household = super-intimidating to him on principle-- but he likes Dawn, and June is a good month for birthdays.]

[Buffy catches sight of Neil when he comes in and makes her way around to him with a big smile.]
