So the 14th was my little sister's birthday. We were kind of...zombified that day and then we were Depped and then...you get the point. So, I'm throwing her a birthday party today at my place. If you've talked to Dawn, met Dawn or even if you just want to come to a party, you're welcome.

Here's the deal, it's a funny hat party. So wear a funny hat and bring an ingredient to put in or on ice cream sundaes.

[Action--fast forwarded to Dawn's birthday party. Threadjack, mill around, have fun]

[Buffy's been busy while Dawn was at work. She hung streamers, banners and gathered balloons. There's glitter confetti scattered all over the floor that's going to take years to get up. Most of the training equipment has been shoved off in a corner to make room for a mini dance floor. The bar at the kitchen is covered in various components for ice cream sundaes. The music is up loud enough to be heard but not so loud it has to be screamed over. Buffy is running around in a sundress, wearing one of those cheesy gag, knife through the head hats.]

Is this some kind of a secret hideout? [ He's amused and looking at the bed, half thinking: who the hell sleeps in a basement? But hey, then again. If it's where the privacy is at and the alcohol is stashed. ]

Drinking from the bottle is fine with me. If it's fine with you. [ He sits down next to her. ]

... Am I allowed to feel special that you brought me down here? [ He's teasing, okay? ]

Spike used to sleep here. [She hasn't gotten into the Spike is a vampire discussion yet. It'll happen. One of these days. Most likely when Spike shows up on visitor day to growl at Pyro]

Works for me. [She uncaps the bottle, takes a drink, makes this face (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iDjC_zULx4) and passes the bottle.]

Why else would I bring you down here? [She teases back.]

[ Looks amused when she makes a face. He takes the bottle and drinks from it. ]

So, um. Who's Spike? [ He's curious since she mentioned him a couple of times. ]

[There'll be more where that came from. The face never really gets old. At least not until she's practically falling down.]

Spike is--[Complicated] a friend from home. He was---I mean we used to date but he sort of stuck around after I--[Dumped him? She's not entirely sure that's the right word.] we broke up. He had some--he needed help. [Because getting your soul back is hard, okay] And when I had to be--gone--[Dead. She hasn't covered that part of things with him yet. She doesn't think anyway.] Spike took care of Dawn for me because Slayer's little sister is a big target so--anyway. He's a friend. Vampire-shaped friend but a good vampire which explains the basement and the abundance of drapes in the rest of the house.

Dude's a vampire? [ He's having a hard time wrapping his head around the fact cause hey, she's a slayer and he's a vampire. ] Oh. I get it.

This Spike guy must be pretty special, huh? [ He's not jealous. That would be ridiculous. He has no reason to be. Plus, this whole thing with Buffy... god knows what the fuck they're doing even. ]

[She arches an eyebrow at Pyro because she's not sure he does get it. If he did, he'd be the first one ever that really got it. She nabs the bottle back from him, takes a drink, does the face and passes back.]

He's a vampire with a soul and Spike is special. Sometimes in the short bus way and sometimes...he's--not my boyfriend anymore. Things went very darkside and I came back from it but he didn't until later and later was too late to keep the whole boyfriend thing and I"m not sure he ever qualified as a--Spike is--okay. You've got friends and some of them are your best friends and you know they'll be there no matter what but they've got big expectations for you and even though you know they'll love you when they find out you stole lipgloss at the drugstore [Yes she's equating sleeping with an undead, souless creature and lying about being in Heaven for months to stealing lipgloss, just in case you needed a step up to speed.] You also know that they're going to be disappointed in you because you're better than that.

Then you have the friend who you tell about the lipgloss because he's just going to smirk and ask when your next heist is. That's Spike.

[And now Pyro gets a confused look. She could tell him and make sure he gets it but she's curious.] You get it?

[ Just looks at her. ] The bad influence.

What? No. [She shakes her head.] Spike--I was actually the good influence. It's more about having someone that doesn't expect you to be anything except what you are: good, bad, horrible morning hair.

I'm doing a bad job of explaining this. Dawn says I have a bad boy thing. [Her eyes go wide and she looks like she wants to take that back now. Instead she sighs, waves a hand and goes on. Foot in mouth is a perpetual Buffy thing and he'll just have to get used to it.] It's not that. It's that I dated the good guy. He couldn't deal with all the slayer stuff. Spike did a pretty bad job of dealing with the girl stuff but he got the slayer stuff and...I guess when it comes right down to it, that part is more important.

Yeah, no. I meant, he was the bad influence. [ He reaches out to tuck a stray lock of hair back behind her ear. ] But you know, I'd probably frown at you big time if you told me you stole lip gloss from a drugstore. I mean, if you're gonna steal, steal big, right?

[ He smirks. ]

Just kidding.

[She blushes a little, leaning toward him a bit when he tucks her hair behind her ear. It's one of those swoony things a guy can do. Especially well used when she was just thinking that she was messing this all up--whatever this is.]

You mean like...a rocket launcher from a military base? [There is some eye lash batting going on.]

That's more like it. [ He grins. ]

First thing I ever stole was a car. I was thirteen.

[She laughs and kicks her shoes off so she can pull her feet up underneath her on the bed.]

And what did you do with a car when you were thirteen?

Took it for a ride on the freeway while listening to the Stones.

[ He scratched at his chin. ] Hm. Actually it might have been the Archies.

[Don't hate her but her musical taste tends more toward mainstream and Indie. It's clear from the puzzled expression on her face that she doesn't get it.]

The who?

A really crappy band from the Archie comics? [ Seriously? She has no clue who Archie is? And Jughead? Yeah. He's not about to mention Betty and Veronica. ]

Oh! I've heard of the comics. I didn't--connect the band and the--Maybe I need more whiskey.

[Or less. You know.]

So do you usually like crappy music or only when you steal cars and cruise on the highway?

[ Why'd he even mention it... He took another swallow of the burning liquid. ]

No. It was just... you know. What was on the radio at the time.

I don't really listen to a lot of music.

You?

[Clearly it had nothing to do with the whiskey or the fact that because of the curse, they're ridiculously nervous around each other.]

Oh...yeah. I guess changing the radio station isn't--Master car thief, I'm not.

Crappy? I guess it depends on what you consider--mostly pop and some indie stuff. I don't have it plugged in all the time but I like live music and sometimes it's nice when I'm working out.

You work out a lot? [ Smirks. ]

Surprisingly, yeah. I mean I don't have to. The slayer stuff keeps me a naturally Buff Buff but when I can't get out to slay, I end up restless or when patrol is fruitless I come home restless. If patrol is full of fruit I come home too keyed up to sleep. [It's the hungry and horny syndrome Faith so succinctly summed up but Buffy refuses to say those words to him right now.]

So basically, yeah I work out a lot.

Buff Buff.

[She smirks and shrugs.] Yeah, it's funny. Willow coined it. [And really, she's not terribly anyone's idea of 'buff'. Sure she looks like she works out but she's far from muscled up. She's still teeny.]

Your friends have really unique names. And they're not even like some made up mutant codename.

People in Sunnydale have to be deeply delusional to live there. I think it rubs off in their baby names. [and that's a big grin.] Willow's mom is very hippy-ish. Xander's name is actually Alexander and Spike was William before he started--a story that isn't appropriate company material. Anyway, he wasn't born Spike and Giles is British.

[Because that explains everything.]

Oh, come on. What's the story with Spike? [ Ever curious and he's pretty sure it's a gory story which makes it appropriate Pyro material. ]
